-SPRING: March through May

Trees and shrubs

  • Prune trees to shape and up limb
  • Prune roses, cut back liriope and ornamental grasses
  • Fertilize trees and shrubs
  • Perform Integrated Pest Management (check for insects and diseases) Treat as necessary
Lawns

  • Apply pre and post emergent weed control over entire lawn area
  • Monitor for insects and diseases. Treat as necessary
  • Mow, trim, edge lawn as needed
Planting Beds (Greenscape)

  • Cleanup debris on planted areas
  • Apply pre and post emergent weed control
  • Monitor for insects and diseases. Treat as necessary.
  • Begin spring flower installations after last frost, typically around Mothers Day.
  • Fertilize and Maintain planting beds by deadheading flowers to prolong bloom time
  • Weed beds regularly
Hardscapes, irrigation systems, landscape lighting, water features

  • Inspect pavers (hardscapes) for damage caused by winter weather, replace as necessary
  • Turn on and inspect irrigation systems for breaks or leaks after April 15th
  • Check landscape lighting for damage. Adjust focus and replace bulbs if necessary
  • Reset automatic timers on lighting when daylight savings time begins
  • Fill and treat water features after April 15th
Finalize design and installation plans for this year’s project
Finalize and sign maintenance contracts

-SUMMER: June through August
Trees and Shrubs

  • Apply slow- release fertilizer to turf
  • Apply post emergent weed control
  • Monitor for insects and diseases. Treat as necessary
  • Mow, trim, edge lawn as needed
Planting Beds (Greenscape)

  • Complete spring flower installation by June 15th
  • Maintain planting beds by deadheading flowers, weeding, and fertilizing
  • Inspect for insects and diseases. Treat as necessary.
  • Apply post emergent weed control
Hardscapes, irrigation systems, landscape lighting, water features
  • Periodically inspect moisture content of separate zones for proper irrigation
  • Keep water features clear of debris and maintain proper water and chemical levels
  • Clean and treat hardscapes
  • Start thinking about next years landscape projects
-FALL: September through November
Trees and Shrubs

  • Fertilize trees and shrubs
  • Perform Integrated Pest Management (check for insects and diseases) Treat as necessary
Lawns

  • Aerate, overseed and apply slow release fertilizer
  • Apply post emergent weed control
  • Mow, trim, edge lawn as needed
  • Remove autumn leaves from lawns as necessary
Planted Beds (Greenscape)

  • Cleanup debris and weed planted areas
  • Apply post emergent weed control
  • Inspect for insects and diseases. Treat as necessary.
  • Maintain planting beds by deadheading flowers, weeding, and fertilizing
  • Install fall flowers such as mums and pansies
  • Begin planting spring bulbs such as daffodils, tulips, crocus, etc.
  • Divide or transplant perennials
Hardscapes, irrigation systems, landscape lighting, water features

  • Turn off and winterize irrigation systems before first freeze. Typically around Nov. 15th
  • Drain and winterize water features before first freeze.
  • Reset timers on landscape lighting when Daylight Savings Time ends
  • Inspect landscape lighting fixtures. Replace bulbs if necessary
Other

  • Begin planning and designing phases for next years projects
  • Finalize winter service contracts for snow removal, pruning
-WINTER: December through February
Trees and Shrubs

  • Prune trees to shape and up limb
  • Prune shrubs to allow for penetration of light and moisture
  • Spray anti-desiccant per recommendation
  • Apply dormant oil to shrubs to reduce problems with insects during spring and summer
  • Begin mulch applications toward winters end
Lawns

  • Apply lime to turf
Planting Beds (Greenscape)

  • Cleanup debris and weed planted areas
  • Plant spring bulbs such as daffodils, tulips, crocus, etc. by January 15th
  • Begin mulch applications toward winters end
